www. finance-monthly .com FINANCE MONTHLY TAXATION AWARDS 2018 25 PORTUGAL INDIRECT TAX ADVISER OF THE YEAR ABOUT SUSANA CLARO Susana Claro is a Partner of PwC Portugal, Angola and Cabo Verde and leads its Indirect Tax practice (VAT, Excise & Customs). She advises local andmultinational corporations on national and cross- border transactions regarding VAT, excise duties and customs, with a particular focus on the structuring, implementation and optimisation of their processes, on a global basis, and regarding consumption tax in Angola. Susana is responsible for providing tax consulting services, assisting clients with their day-to-day matters (including compliance and reporting), and also for the assistance provided during tax inspections and reimbursement claims. She is a specialist, from an indirect taxation perspective, in the following business sectors: financial services (banking and insurance), construction and real estate, and consumer business. She has 19 years of professional experience in taxation, a background in business management and a post-graduate qualification in advanced accounting and tax. Susana has concluded the exams for admission to the Portuguese Institute of Statutory Auditors. Susana is a trainer certified by the Professional Employment and Training Institute. Since 2009, Susana has been an arbitrator at the Portuguese Court of Tax Arbitration (CAAD), and is commonly involved in decisions concerning tax matters. Susana collaborates in executive Master’s and post-graduate courses as a lecturer in indirect taxation, and participates as a speaker in several courses, seminars and conferences. She also regularly collaborates with the press on the same topic. Susana is the author of several technical articles on indirect taxation, published in books and specialized magazines. Susana has been recognized by her peers and clients as a leading female tax adviser in International Tax Review’s Women in Tax Leaders guide.
